Modeled another character – Grandma. This time I also captured almost all the process as video timelapse. Full recorded working time is about 15 hours. Enjoy!
Had a little free time in summer and decided to continue Urla character. Although I wanted my animation to be more stylised, it doesn’t hurt to explore other possibilities and it was really fun to do also. As a result of this I discovered, that specular/glossy pass of render looks really, really cool and I should play with it even more. Reminds me “Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” title sequence by Blur studio, although it is a little different. One fact still bothers me.. this sculpting and texturing work takes quite some time.. don’t know if I can afford to spend that much of it on every other character.
A few new character drawings.
Although in Latvia, we have big cinemas with world class stereoscopic projectors, we unfortunately can’t really be proud of big cinema industry. 3D movie is something no one had done here before, at least locally, but a few brave people really wanted to try it, so the project “Rīga-2041” was born. Of course, if the movie is in 3D, title should be in 3D also.
Retopologized the head of Urla sculpt. Shading is just a fast matcap. Still not sure about eyes..
Started to recreate one of the characters in 3D. Overall shape is pretty much the same as in drawing, except the pose, because it’s easier to model with mirroring one side to other and mess up the symmetry only at final stages. I also sculpted the face and it looks kind of ok, but I’m still not sure about best way to get it look 2D, but preserve 3D characteristics of shape. Will have to experiment later in process.
To make life more interesting and escape work on minibus, which has become a little monotonous, I drew some characters. Although there is quite specific overall style of animation in my mind, I must admit, everything could change a little with time, because animation will be done in 3D and that offers some interesting, technology specific possibilities with whom I always love to experiment, but I will maintain the silhouettes as much as possible. Also I’m not sure if I should make faces 3D or 2D..
